The Lynx swim team competed against rival Sewanee this past weekend. The women's team defeated the Tigers 136-90, winning 10 out of 12 individual events and touching first in both relays. The men's teams fell to the Tigers 99-166, but were still able to capture 4 individual wins.
The women's 400 medley relay of Jackie Ward, Kristen Griffin, Hannah Emery, and Kelly Helvenston won the event by over 10 seconds. Senior and co-captain Kim Green won both the 200 free and 50 free. On the men's side, freshman Erik Campbell won a close race in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.24.
Co-captain Jackie Ward had an outstanding swim in the 100 backstroke, winning the event in a time of 1:03.83, and later winning the 200 backstroke as well. Senior Sallye Hartman won 3 individual events including the 100 butterfly in which she set a new school record with a time of 1:00.50. Freshman Hannah Emery won the 200 butterfly and had the fastest time in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:19.24. Sprinter Jarrett Tate captured a win in the 50 free clocking in at a time of 21.98. Sophomore Kristen Griffin won the 200 breastroke and fellow sophomore Lynn Swiger won the 200 individual medley. Drew Wagstaff won both the 500 and 1000 freestyles, with times of 5:05.46 and 10:30.08 respectively.
The next competition for the Lynx is the DePauw University Invitational on December 5-6 in Greencastle, Indiana.
